Community tours

NAWMA offers free community tours for residents of our Constituent Councils (the Cities of Salisbury and Playford and the Town of Gawler), Client Councils and people who work with groups in these areas. Tours provide an overview of NAWMA’s services and how resources are recovered and reused.

Material Recovery Facility (MRF) Tour

NAWMA - Material Recovery Facility

Learn what happens to your recycling after it leaves your yellow-lid bin. This tour includes a short presentation at NAWMA’s Education Centre (Edinburgh), followed by a guided walk through the MRF to see how recyclables are sorted and recovered for further processing.

  • Duration: 1.5–2 hours
  • Physical requirements: Up to 30 minutes of walking, stairs and moderate heights

NAWMA - Material Recovery FacilityThree-bin Community Bus Tour

These tours typically visit the landfill, composting facility and MRF* (this component is as per the above MRF Tour description), where NAWMA red, green and yellow bin contents are processed. These tours can be modified depending on tour group needs.

  • Duration: 3-6 hours (depending on sites visited)
  • Physical requirements: Up to 30 minutes of walking, stairs and moderate heights

Accessibility notice

  • Asthma: Dust, airborne particles and strong odours may be present.
  • Sensory sensitivity: Loud noises, moving machinery and strong visual stimuli.
  • Mobility: Walking, stairs and moderate heights required.
  • Service animals: Not recommended due to noise, metal-grated stairs and possible broken glass.
